WATCH: Jackie’s intro to her talk

Testers are often told not to make assumptions. Easy? Nope. Letting go of your assumptions is one of the hardest things to do, because you are most probably not aware of them. However, if we do not assume anything, we would not be able to communicate, let alone be able to test anything; we cannot live without assumptions. On the flip side of the same coin, our assumptions are at the root of our miscommunications and many mistakes that we make. It is a paradox: The Assumption Paradox.

I will take you on a journey to explore the way our mind works when it comes to assumptions, to make you aware of your own assumptions better. This and some real life examples of ‘Assumptions Gone Wrong’ will help you understand when to assume and when not to assume, and thus become a better tester.
