Understanding how to use a product under test is a key skill for software testers. In the past this knowledge has come from reading requirements documentation and working with others in the development team and the wider business that are responsible for the product design. But is this enough to understand how the product will be used? And what if that product was installed on millions of devices across the world? These are the realities of mobile testing. Mobile users are different. The emotional attachment people have with their mobile devices is far greater than with websites and desktops. Their expectations are greater and it’s far easier to make their voices heard through application store feedback.
This presentation will explain the typical ways in which mobile users are different and what we, as testers, can do in order to understand them better so that we can test better.
Key Points:
- Why is mobile so important?
- Who are these mobile users anyway?
- Techniques we can use to better understand mobile users.
- How we can use this understanding to drive our testing to greater heights.
This presentation is built upon experience I have gained during my 14 years within the mobile industry and will give the audience some real life examples of how testing within Nokia and other companies was improved by focusing more on the user and by partnering with other teams within the company.
Key Takeaways:
- An understanding of the mobile market.
- Hints and tips on how to understand mobile users, which the audience can use in order to improve their testing efforts.
- The skills in order to engage with other teams such as UX and Design in order to help test better.
