The TEST Huddle Blog is the new home for all software testing articles produced for EuroSTAR by the software testing community. Moving forward the EuroSTAR blog (that’s right here!) is the place for company news, conference announcements, exhibition news, advice and information for attendees, would-be speakers and other partners.

YAAAAAAAWN! BO-RING! – Gimme the good stuff. Over to Huddle!

No, I’m in the right place! Keep Reading!

With just 5 weeks to go until the EuroSTAR Conference last week we looked at ways of building excitement and momentum before the event.

In the run up to the conference it’s also a good idea to prepare your plan of action for onsite and to put together a plan for your stand personnel.

At the event the likelihood is that you will be in a hall full of other exhibiting companies who will also be competing for the attention of attendees who have limited time in the exhibition hall. Do you know what are you going to do to make your booth stand out and grab peoples attention?

1. Host a Raffle/Giveaway

Sure you have a great product/service that people will definitely benefit from using – but sometimes it’s nicer (and easier) for your stand personnel to approach attendees by saying “Are you interested in taking part in our raffle?” rather than saying “Excuse me, would you like to hear about our new product release?”. Leading with the raffle question “breaks the ice” with the attendee and also lets you give them something first before asking them to listen about your product.

It’s a tried and tested technique that hosting a giveaway/competition on your stand is a great way of catching people’s attention.

One that we’ve seen working time and time again is hosting a raffle/giveaway.

– Ask people give you their details or drop their business card into a bowl

– Promote it on Social Media using the event hashtag and pictures so attendees will see that you are giving away a cool prize and will call over to your stand the next time they are in the exhibition hall

– Let people know when you will be announcing the winner so they might come back to the stand to watch the raffle being held.

– Choose the winner/s on the last day of the event and take a picture with the winner to share on social media.

2. Challenge the Attendees

Another way of catching people’s attention is to do something interactive on your booth which can draw a crowd and which will in turn make your booth look busy and it will have other people wondering what is happening at the stand. Curiosity is a great thing, they’ll be over to see what’s happening really quickly.

Remember the buzzer game?  HP brought it to the 2011 EuroSTAR Conference in Manchester and it was extremely popular!

Last year in Dublin they were teaching people how to pull the perfect pint of Guinness – the attendees loved it!

Computer/Video games are always a big hit too!

Sometimes an activity can even distract the conference organisers (Daragh working very hard here..;) )

Extra tip: Always let the organisers know what you have planned for your stand so they can help you promote it :)

Have you seen any other seen any other activities on booths which you thought were really cool?
