Communities accompany our social life throughout. As early as kindergarten, they help us connect and define ourselves. Even though we are probably all a bit older, communities also help us to develop in a professional context. Often, various platforms such as Stack overflow or Reddit are the first port of call for questions on specific topics.

Almost two years ago, I myself started my first community in the software testing area, the Meetup “Software Testing Karlsruhe”, which is now one of the largest in Germany. Based on this we started the Automation Advocates a few months ago, a community with events and resources from and for testers. In this talk, I will present my learnings and especially practical tips for building a community from scratch.
