Enhancing Agile Testing with LLMs: A Guide for Testers

Fran O'Hara

13:30 - 17:00 CEST, Tuesday 3rd June

In today’s agile landscape, the integration of GenAI and specifically Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT presents new ways to improve testing practices across the software development lifecycle. This half-day tutorial is specifically designed for non-technical testers and quality professionals who want to deepen their agile testing skills while simultaneously learning how to enhance these testing practices using LLMs.

We’ll begin by exploring key agile testing practices, including test strategy development, test planning, user story refinement, product risk analysis, test design, test data generation and session-based exploratory testing. Alongside each topic, we’ll explore how LLMs can support and improve these activities by using examples and hands-on exercises.

While we will briefly discuss how LLMs can contribute to test automation, the session will primarily focus on areas that do not require coding or scripting experience. Special attention will be given to prompt engineering techniques and effective prompting strategies, enabling testers to extract the maximum value from these rapidly evolving AI tools.

A realistic product backlog case study will form the basis of our team-based exercises, allowing you to engage in hands-on experimentation will LLM-driven testing approaches.

As you explore these techniques, you’ll assess their relevance and effectiveness within your specific testing context. This practical, interactive approach fosters critical thinking about when and how to best integrate LLMs into your agile testing activities. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of the potential risks and limitations of AI, ensuring that these tools are used to augment—rather than replace—your expertise in delivering high-quality software.

This session is ideal for testers looking to leverage LLMs to enhance their agile testing practices while staying grounded in human judgment and domain knowledge.

Attendees will need laptop with access to an LLM such as ChatGPT-4o.
