Will I lose my job to AI? How should I upskill to make myself more employable in an AI dominated future? Is there even a future in software development and testing roles? These are all questions that I, like many others have been asked and have been trying to answer over the past few years as the prominence of AI has ramped up.

As we move into a future dominated by AI and machine learning one thing is clear, we need to stay on top of the evolving skill set need in our teams. This track talk explores the changing landscape of testing roles as a result of AI and the impact to you and your organisation. Today’s test techniques are unlikely to disappear, but how we perform these activities will undoubtedly change. Being resilient to change is key to your success.

Hiring needs will change too. As we evolve our testing approach, tools and processes we need to evolve our hiring needs. Figuring out the skills required for the future is one challenge, hiring the right person for the job an even bigger one. Do we embrace AI during the hiring process or do we fight back against it for fear of masking a candidate’s skill set behind a tool?

I will take you on a journey through this talk, exploring this complex theme. If you are a manager of a team, this will help you consider what your evolving team needs will be and how best to support your team. If you are a member of a team, this will help you understand how to position yourself and your skills, both for today and tomorrow.

Can we predict the future? No, but we can learn from the evolution of our industry to help position ourselves, our workforce and our processes to put us in the best possible position for an uncertain future.

Steve has over 15 years experience working in software testing and QA, catching the software testing bug as a student tester back in 2008. He has since worked in a wide variety of test management, architecture, SDET and QA lead/engineer roles across a broad range of industries including the pharmaceutical, insurance and cyber security domains.
