How do you measure the quality of software? For years, our industry has relied on traditional metrics like defect counts, test case numbers, and app store ratings. While these metrics provide some insights, they fail to tell the complete story. In this talk, I’ll introduce the Quality Evolution Tracker, a groundbreaking tool designed to assess and track the evolution of product quality over time.

This solution was inspired by frustrations with outdated and often misleading methods of quality measurement. It also stems from a fundamental question I’ve often asked myself: as testers, we are constantly evaluating software, but how do we measure the quality of the product itself?

The Quality Evolution Tracker provides teams with a structured approach to evaluating quality, demonstrating the value of testing, and driving continuous improvement. It empowers stakeholders across the product lifecycle to monitor quality trends, optimize processes, and gain evidence-based insights into a product’s growth and success.

In this session, I’ll take you through the journey of developing this solution—its foundational principles, the challenges we faced, and how we tackled them. I’ll also unveil the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) of the tracker and explore its practical applications in real-world scenarios. While the ultimate goal is ambitious—to revolutionize how we measure quality and set a new industry standard—this tool also seeks to spark a critical, ongoing conversation about what quality truly means and how we can effectively assess it.

I’m Bart, a seasoned software tester from Belgium with over a decade of experience in software testing and a strong passion for test automation. I began my career in software development, but after dealing with the frustrations of unresolved bugs, I discovered my true calling: ensuring software reliability.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working on impactful media projects for Belgian organizations such as VRT (Flemish Radio and Television Broadcasting Organisation) and DPG Media, one of Belgium’s leading media groups. For the past five years, I’ve been a QA Coach at Axxes, where I mentor and guide emerging professionals.

Currently, I’m proud to serve as the Technical Lead of Software Testing at Axxes, where I help drive innovation and best practices in the field.

Outside of work, I’m passionate about sports, music, and gaming, which allow me to stay energized and creative beyond my technical pursuits.
