Betting on Quality: From Crisis to Confidence

10:30 - 11:15 CEST, Tuesday 16th June

Over the course of a year in Norsk Tipping, a string of system failures and quality issues hit our customers hard. They made the news, hurt our reputation, and shook confidence in our products and services.

The failures weren’t just bugs in the code; they were symptoms of insufficient processes and ownership, high work pressure and increased risk due to technical complexity.

This honest talk is the story of that year. The problems, the consequences, the lessons learned and more importantly, what we had to do to turn things around for the better.

We will share and discuss the steps that helped us shift from “firefighting” to building resilient systems and teams and confidence in our deliveries.

  • Embed test principles and practices into product teams
  • Making risk awareness part of the organisational DNA in order to help out with prioritising test effort where it matters the most
  • Aligning and integrating software testing tightly with development (not bolted on after)
  • Using automation and other practices where it makes sense

The recovery won’t be fast and it won’t be easy, but by working together and cultivating a culture for quality and a rethinking our approach to software testing, we hope to regain the trust we lost.

This will also help us lay the foundation for delivering software we can be proud of, and meets the high level of quality our customers should expect from us.

If your organisation is facing quality challenges, we hope this story will inspire you, and show you that through teamwork, collaboration and a renewed focus on testing and quality you can make changes that will have a positive impact in your organisation.
