What does a roleplaying game based in the 1920s where you are a Private Detective being asked to investigate a haunted house, have to do with Consulting? And what does Consulting have to do with Testing?

Everything!

Everything we do in Quality Engineering and Testing is about delivering value to the customer, client or end user. Regardless of whether you are a Test Consultant trying to help a client with their problem, a Test Manager creating a test strategy or an SDET picking up a new ticket to work, a Consultancy Model provides a consistent, repeatable process to go through every time.

It may only take hours, days or weeks, depending on the scale, but it will improve the likelihood of things not going wrong and enable you to successfully delight your stakeholders by delivering the right thing.

The scenarios in the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game can be approached with the same model, but success in this case is defeating the dread, eldritch horrors and surviving to fight another day (or at least not wiping out the whole party). It’s also a great fun way to learn the Consulting Model.
