What Our Brains Add, and What They Ignore

Maria Whaibe

14:15 - 15:00 CEST, Tuesday 16th June

What we do is often seen as a purely technical discipline, but at its core, it is deeply human.

The way we perceive patterns, make assumptions, and focus our attention shapes not only how we test but also what we miss. In this talk, we’ll explore how our brains are both our greatest testing tool and our biggest blind spot.

Through a pair of live demonstrations, we will experience together firsthand how easily we slip into familiar patterns, and how our attention can betray us.

We’ll unpack how we rely on intuition to anticipate issues, and why this is powerful but also risky. We’ll examine how focus can sharpen our detection skills, yet simultaneously narrow our field of vision. Most importantly, we’ll translate these lessons into practical strategies: broadening perspectives, breaking assumptions, and applying structured techniques that help us catch what others overlook.
